Sony Moves M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘After Earth’ Up One Week to May 31st
Someone’s a widdle scared of Man of Steel… Sony has decided to move M. Night Shyamalan’s sci-fi thriller “After Earth” starring Will & Jaden Smith up one week to May 31st. The film was originally scheduled for a June 7 release, only one week before Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” hits theaters, but the studio decided to capitalize on the extra weekend without Superman and one that will only have them face competition from the magician pic “Now You See Me” and Universal’s horror film “The Purge.”
While it’s a last minute move it seems like a great idea since the flick will now be right in the middle of “Star Trek Into Darkness” and “Man of Steel.” While Will Smith is a genuine movie star and can command an audience, Shyamalan’s reputation hasn’t exactly been the greatest in recent years so hopefully this film turns out to be a nice surprise. After Earth centers on a father and son who crash-land on a planet that was evacuated by humans 1,000 years earlier. Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman co-star.
