(Updated) Felicity Jones, Anna Kendrick, and Imogen Poots Frontrunners for Female Lead in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER
Update: Add Alison Brie (Community), Emelia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), and Teresa Palmer’s (I Am Number Four) names in there as well. Originally, it was only three lovely ladies – Felicity Jones, Anna Kendrick, and Imogen Poots – whose names were being thrown around as the frontrunners to play the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The sequel takes place in the present day, thereby making us say ♪ so long, farewell ♪ to Hayley Atwell, who was probably one of the best parts of the first film for me.
I’m going to assume that this is still for the role of Sharon Carter, Peggy Carter’s niece, and not a second love interest. Anthony & Joe Russo are taking on directing duties here and they happen to be long-running directors and executive producers of Community so my money’s on Brie for landing the role. Brie is extremely talented, as are the rest of the contenders, and I don’t think they can really go wrong with any of them. How diplomatic of me!
Steve Rogers ends up being romantically involved with his ex-flame’s niece… Way to keep it in the family Steve? Marvel Universe Wiki tells me that Sharon Carter “served a brief term as Executive Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., during the absence of Nick Fury. She then became a field agent once more, reporting directly to new Executive Director Maria Hill as a liaison officer specifically assigned to support and report on Captain America’s activities.” She has special abilities in the following categories (we are all able): martial arts, espionage, & weaponry.
I thought the first film was decent enough but a bit too cheesy for my liking so hopefully the Russo brothers take the sequel in a different direction. ‘Captain America 2′ is set to hit theaters on April 4, 2014. Peculiar date.
