Early Buzz for PITCH PERFECT Starring Anna Kendrick, Elizabeth Banks, & Rebel Wilson
So what if I spent my Sunday morning collecting early reactions to the upcoming musical comedy PITCH PERFECT? It’s a little thing called, dedication. Universal held a bunch of advance screenings for the film in several cities throughout the US and the overall sentiment has been extremely positive so far.
I’m not typically drawn to musical films but I’ve been looking forward to Pitch Perfect ever since the first trailer was released. Oh, I also found out that 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon wrote it, so there’s that. And it stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Elizabeth Banks (who is also an Executive Producer – you go Glen Coco), Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Alexis Knapp, Brittany Snow, Adam DeVine, and Anna Camp. Anna Kendrick is a song and dance girl too? So that would make her what, an octuple threat? Open letter on behalf of everyone: Dear Anna Kendrick, you’re making the rest of us look bad.
The story follows an all-girls a cappella group who rebuild so they can make their way to the championship and take on the boys. This leads to a competition, and new girl Beca is determined to revamp the set-list so that it includes music that’s more up-to-date. Pitch Perfect sings its way into theaters without any instrumental sound (I’ll pause for laughter) on October 5.
Here’s the most descriptive review from the ever-reliable IMDB:
dragora116: Take Bring It On, Glee (not in the icky cheesy way, but because there’s singing involved, the good kind), Mean Girls, and add some quick-witted, sharp-tongued dialogue and commentary, and you have the funniest of movies.
At first I was leery: a movie about A Cappella singing groups; I thought at best, it would be a teen flick. Yes, I know, Anna Kendrick. But bigger (some better) names have made some doozies. But, I was unbelievably surprised. Every kind of humour is covered here, and done to absolute perfection. You will be adopting many, many of the lines into your daily lexicon.
For me, Rebel Wilson (as Fat Amy) and Elizabeth Banks (as Gail, the commentator) have some of the most hysterically smart lines ever committed to celluloid (right up there with Young Frankenstein). Loved it. 9/10
HapGallager: I was fortunate enough to catch an early preview of this film last night in Woodland Hills. This film ROCKS!! I thought I was not going to like it but I loved it. Rebel Wilson steals the show. The music is exceptional and the songs are awesome. A total throwback to the 80’s. The people in audience were clapping to the beat of the songs and laughing hysterically. My girlfriend had to drag me to this screening but I’m glad she did. I can’t wait for the sound track to come out.
theblugoldfish:Just saw it myself and it was GREAT! So unexpectedly funny, kind of like bridesmaids meets glee club was fantastic. Reccommend it to everyone 🙂
gabe1383: Just saw an advanced screening of Pitch Perfect today! LOOOOOVED IT!!! It was hilar! :)) I lurvs me some Anna Kendrick! If you didn’t know she could sing you need to watch Camp! Also, she was one of the youngest actresses nominated for a Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in “High Society” on Broadway. B-)
rebekahdorothy: Got the chance to see an advance-advance screening of Pitch Perfect today. Such a FUN movie!!!! A film about a capella that incorporates the breakfast club = perfect. And Greg from my hometown was in it … so cool seeing him making it to the big screen!
Casie Coleman: Just saw the private screening of the movie pitch perfect…can I just tell you…it was AMAZING. I can’t wait to see it again when it comes out in October!
Ted Slowik: Just saw a preview screening of Pitch Perfect with Jo Slowik and loved it! A raunchier version of High School Musical meets Dodgeball, written by Lewis alum Kay Cannon. In theaters Oct. 5.
astoldbyblondie: I’m not supposed to talk about it or anything but it was incredible. My mom & I were invited to it by a friend and ahhhhhhhhh I still can’t get over it. Like both the boys and the girls teams are amazing (personally I liked the boys team best). And like halfway through the movie the boys do this mash-up and at the end of it my mom & i stood up and clapped before realizing that we were still in a movie theatre and who stands up and cheers for a fictional a cappella team singing a song in a movie you are watching? I cannot recommend it enough.
sassygayunicorn: I saw pitch perfect two days ago at a pre-screening! when it comes out i DEFINITELY reccomend that you go see it! its fuckin hilarious!
