Man of Steel has already earned $170 million from its 98 promotional partners and is expected to pull in roughly $100 million during its opening weekend bow, so it comes as no surprise that Warner Bros. has officially given the sequel a greenlight. Deadline is reporting that the film will be fast-tracked with Snyder, writer David S. Goyer, & producer Christopher Nolan all set to return in their respective roles, although Nolan may not be as involved this time around. I hear that the studio was also influenced by the following Google stats: there were seven million searches this week alone with the keywords: “Henry+Cavil+Hot+Shirtless.”
Goyer has a massive three-picture deal with the studio for Man of Steel, Man of Steel 2, and Justice League, the latter of which will most likely not be hitting theaters anytime soon. In a recent interview with Collider, Zack Snyder remarked: “I feel like you need to get Superman a little further down the road before you can do a Justice League movie.”
The review embargo lifts in just a few hours and I think it’s a safe bet that most of the reviews will land on the positive side. Man of Steel opens this Friday and follows a young boy who learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.
