New IMAX Poster For ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’
An incredibly impressive, Baroque-style IMAX poster for Francis Lawrence’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been released. “As Katniss and Peeta embark on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts, Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games.” Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright, and Amanda Plummer also star. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens on November 22nd. I’m really hoping that this poster, which was inspired by artist Kris Kuksi, will be given out to those who attend special IMAX screenings of the film. This thing is a beauty.
Here’s how Guillermo del Toro describes Kris Kuksi’s work:
“Kris Kuksi obsessively arranges characters and architecture in asymmetric compositions with an exquisite sense of drama. Instead of stones and shells he uses screaming plastic soldiers, miniature engine blocks, towering spires and assorted debris to form his landscapes. The political, spiritual and material conflict within these shrines is enacted under the calm gaze of remote deities and august statuary. Kuksi manages to evoke, at once, a sanctum and a mausoleum for our suffocated spirit.”
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
