New Look at Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman’ Featuring Gal Gadot
Warner Bros has released a new image from Patty Jenkins’ WONDER WOMAN. It features me Diana, princess of the Amazons, bravely charging into battle. And get this, Wonder Woman was just voted the “Most Anticipated Comic Book Character in a 2017 Movie” in Fandango’s year-end poll (disclaimer: I voted ten thousand times). Diana, a.k.a Wonder Woman if you’re nasty, beat out Baby Groot (awe), Logan/Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Thor for the most prestigious award in all of Hollywood.
Director Patty Jenkins spoke with Empire Magazine about the film’s World War I setting: “My approach was to focus on telling the story of mechanised war and how that would look to a god visiting our world for the first time. I wanted the audience to understand the horrors that a war on this scale makes possible and how shocking that would be to someone who comes with a strong sense of honor and justice. She doesn’t realise yet just how senselessly dark the world can be.”
“What motivates her is philosophical,” said Jenkins of Wonder Woman herself. “She isn’t just taking out bad guys or fighting crime. She believes in goodness and love. [She] is fierce and willing to fight, but only to protect a better vision for mankind. Hers is really a coming-of-age story.”
“Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.” Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Connie Nielsen, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, and Saïd Taghmaoui also star. Wonder Woman opens in theaters June 2, 2017.
