Two new images from Alan Taylor’s “Thor: The Dark World” featuring Chris Hemsworth & Natalie Portman have been released. In the sequel, Thor battles an ancient race of Dark Elves led by the vengeful Malekith who threatens to plunge the universe back into darkness after the events of The Avengers. The Dark World’s trailer will debut tomorrow (April 23rd) so stay tuned for that.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige remarked to USA Today about the new focus of the sequel: “It’s superhero action, but it’s the familiar territory of a love triangle where the parents think your girlfriend is wrong for you. That’s how the best of these movies work.” I’m glad that statement implies we’ll be seeing more of the talented Jaimie Alexander, who played warrior goddess of Asgard Sif in Kenneth Branagh’s original.
Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins also star. Thor: The Dark World hits theaters November 8, 2013.
Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s Thor and Marvel’s The Avengers, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
