TIFF 2012: Video Review for The Wachowskis’ & Tom Twyker’s CLOUD ATLAS
One of the biggest titles at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was undoubtedly the Wachowskis’ and Tom Tykwer’s highly ambitious film adaptation of David Mitchell’s critically acclaimed novel CLOUD ATLAS. I have not read the book that was once deemed impossible to adapt, but I thought the film was an absolute spectacle and an incredible feat in both storytelling and filmmaking. The intertwining of multiple genres, storylines, and characters is expertly executed in a seamless fashion. It’s the most ambitious film you’ll see this year.
Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. I recorded a video blog reaction right after the screening so check it out below!
The film stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, and David Gyasi. Cloud Atlas hits theaters on October 26th.
