First Image From Jason Reitman’s ‘Labor Day’ Featuring Kate Winslet & Josh Brolin
Here’s our first official image from Jason Reitman’s (Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air, Young Adult) upcoming drama Labor Day featuring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin. Based on Joyce Maynard’s novel of the same name, the film centers on an “escaped convict who takes shelter with the mentally fragile, reclusive single-mom Adele and her almost-teenage son over the course of one long late-summer holiday weekend in the mid-1980s.”
“The first time I read the book I imagined this moment, this shot, this frame, the way he holds her, with the kid in the background. And we would see the neighbor through the window, so the audience would feel danger, but at the same time a desperation for Frank and Adele to be together.” – Jason Reitman (on the photo below)
I’m really looking forward to checking this one out at TIFF in September. Tobey Maguire, Gattlin Griffith, J.K. Simmons, Clark Gregg, and James Van Der Beek also star. Labor Day opens in limited release on December 25th before expanding wide on January 31st. “LABOR DAY” centers on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler, who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.
