‘Man of Steel’ Sets June Record With $113M Opening Weekend Tally; ‘This Is the End’ Impresses With $20.5M
Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel topped the North American box office this weekend with a fantastic $113M, besting previous record holder Toy Story 3 ($110.3M) for the highest opening in June. The film also brought in roughly $71.6M from international markets, bringing its total worldwide take to an astounding $196.7M (including Thursday night’s earnings).
The only other wide release was Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s acclaimed apocalyptic comedy This Is the End, which nabbed a solid $20.5M over the three day haul, adding to its already impressive Wednesday & Thursday grosses of $7.8M & $4.5M respectively. The film only had a price tag of $32M, relatively low for today’s standards, and should hold up extremely well for weeks to come.
