New Images from THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Featuring A First Look at Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee
Here’s our first official look at Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee alongside Woody Harrelson as Haymitch in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. We also get new images featuring Primrose and her mother (too lazy to google her name/bad memory) and President Snow (Donald Sutherland).
Director Francis Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly that several characters (Bonnie, Twill, and Darius) that were featured in the second book would not be included in the film due to time constraints: “It’s as agonizing for us to lose things from the book as it is for a fan. I want every single thing in there. But you know what? If you have to give up something in order to give more time to Katniss and Gale or to Effie as she starts to feel a conscience, you make the sacrifices in order to serve the characters and themes that are more essential.”
Well, I can’t say I’m disappointed because I completely forget who those three are (and Catching Fire was my favorite book in the trilogy … time for some Ginkgo biloba.)
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
