Misfits Series 4 Episode 6: Someone Stole My Penis
The other day at work I had overheard two people talking about a TV show (in the TV section of all the places!) “Are you watching this season? There’s just no character development. Like, they killed Curtis out of no where!” I knew they were talking about Misfits unless there was someone named Curtis on The Mindy Project and I really haven’t been paying attention. I agreed with them and can’t help but involve myself in everything so I began to talk to them and I really agreed with what they had said. Although I enjoyed how this season began, Curtis’ death and the episode that followed seemed so out of place for the series as a whole, and this particular series. I told them the show just needed to refocus its energy and I think it may have done that with this episode.
Misfits is a very ridiculous show, we know this, but it’s especially ridiculous when it’s trying to be very serious. Take for example the last minute of this episode with Jess and The Guy From The Bar who I will now be referring to as No Cock. When he pulled down his pants to show that he was without penis, I almost lost myself because, I mean, it’s ridiculous but only because Misfits has THE BALLS (unlike this character) to go there when other shows would/could never and it makes me uncomfortable sometimes. But that’s fine because, as we all know, the show uses it’s ridiculousness to provide a usually compelling storyline.
When this particular episode began with them going to a typical rave, I was ready to write it off. This has a very been there, done that feeling for the show and I didn’t need another rave episode. I just didn’t. Misfits talks about sex, shows people having sex, and is all sexed up so much that it’s tiring and sometimes it feels like it’s not about much else. I thought what took place in the rave was far more compelling then this one-off Bunny villain thing that began halfway through the episode. I thought the numbers on their foreheads that told how many people they had shagged was much more compelling than it needed to be, and really held true to the characters. I thought that the numbers on the forehead was a great way of relating to how awkward or confident someone is when flirting or trying to flirt at a social event.
As always, the stuff with Finn was forced and uninteresting, and Rudy was given nothing to do this episode (for the most part). But back to the No Cock storyline… where do you think this is going to go? Judging by the previews, someone finds out who has his Cock, but what is Misfits trying to tell me with this storyline? I ask because Misfits is always trying to tell us something while entertaining us but if the storyline is “he was less of a man without his penis” and he turns out to be an asshole when he gets it back (remember, his # was quite high), well then I figured that all out when he showed her his mangina (I’m sticking with that) at the end of the episode.
This recap has me as exhausted as this season does.
