New Image from ‘Ender’s Game’ Featuring Asa Butterfield & Harrison Ford
A new image from Gavin Hood’s Ender’s Game featuring Harrison Ford & Asa Butterfield has been released courtesy of the newest edition of Empire. A film adaptation of Orson Scott Card‘s classic novel of the same name, the story centers on an unusually gifted child (Butterfield) who is sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future invasion. Asa spoke with Empire about going to Space Camp (god blimey, nerd alert), his battle room stunts & costume so check out some excerpts below and click here to read the full interview.
Asa on his battle room stunts:
“There’s a really cool sequence where I’m sort of spinning over backwards and I let go of my guns. They’re floating by my side just going along. As I push myself through these two stars, I spin back over and grab the guns, then shoot the people around me. I loved doing that.”
On his battle room costume:
“It’s called a flash suit. It looks incredible, but wearing it was pretty uncomfortable, because they were tight and thick and didn’t give you all that much movement. It’s like wearing three wetsuits and then putting on body armour over that. We had a few versions: a normal one, and then a slightly bigger one which let you wear a harness underneath. You wouldn’t want to wear one for more than an hour.”
Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis, and Abigail Breslin also star. Ender’s Game hits theaters November 1, 2013.
In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite. Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.
