Alfonso Cuaron’s Ambitious Sci-Fi ‘Gravity’ Set for Release on October 4, 2013
Best news of the year! Alfonso Cuaron’s (Children of Men, Prisoner of Azkaban) upcoming sci-fi film ‘Gravity’ will finally be released in theaters October 4. The film stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney and is a “contemporary survival thriller that follows an astronaut as she attempts to make her way back to earth after a satellite crash sets off a chain reaction of further crashes.” We already know it’s going to be an absolute must-see for scifi fans everywhere: the opening sequence (uncut) is nearly twenty minutes long, it features 60% CGI, and stars only two actors.
Guillermo Del Toro had this to say about the film: “it is a very odd film, really. Two people in space. No monsters. It’s more like 2001 than an action film. The story is incredibly human but Kubrickian in precision.” He also went on to say that Alfonso and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki are pushing a new boundary in filmmaking and that it’s completely mind-blowing. Gravity has been my most anticipated film for the past two years and I’m so happy I’ll finally be able to see in eight months.
