First Synopsis for Neil Blomkamp’s ELYSIUM Starring Matt Damon
The first official synopsis for Neil Blomkamp’s highly anticipated sophomore sci-fi film ELYSIUM has made its way online. “In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
I’ve attached the previously released viral video because this new synopsis gives us a much better understanding of what we were actually watching. “Welcome to a company where cutting-edge technology meets human innovation. Armadyne, we are building a better world and we are building it with you. Armadyne is embarking on a monumental vision of the future. The most ambitious project ever undertaken by mankind begins now. Currently. We are seeking experienced individuals in the following fields: Zero G Welders, Mega-Structure Engineers, Quantum Networkers, Experts in Zero G Coupling, and Multi-Generational Planning. If you see yourself in our future take the first step and apply today. Armadyne, taking mankind into the future. Expected project completion Spring 2097.”
Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Diego Luna, Alice Braga, and William Fichtner co-star. I’m a huge fan of District 9 and I can’t wait to see what Blomkamp has in store for us next. The film is scheduled to hit theaters March 1st, 2013.
