Check Out Mortal Kombat Director Kevin Tancharoen’s Video Pitch for THE HUNGER GAMES
My name is Katniss Everdeen and I approve this message. Kevin Tancharoen, the director of the upcoming Mortal Kombat film, was in the running to direct that little film called The Hunger Games and now we know that he put together a great video pitch for Lionsgate showcasing his vision for the film. While the highly sought-after gig eventually went to Gary Ross, Tancharoen has released his pitch to the public and the video really gives us a great idea of how he would have adapted Suzanne Collins’ book for the big screen. It’s definitely worth a watch.
I can’t even imagine how tedious it is to edit all of those scenes from dozens of different films but that was an incredibly well done sizzle reel. It’s heavier on the sci-fi elements so naturally I find myself incredibly intrigued by his vision for the film. I enjoyed Gary Ross’ take very much but of course I had my reservations about it and I’m glad to see Lawrence taking on directing duties for Catching Fire. Ross’ approach was more of a realistic one and while it worked well on an emotional level because he presented us a truly bleak world full of despair, it was missing that action/entertainment element that a film adaptation would have definitely benefited from.
