Sony has unveiled the first trailer for Morten Tyldum’s upcoming space thriller Passengers. “The spaceship, Starship Avalon, on its 120-year voyage to a distant colony planet known as “Homestead II” and transporting 5,259 people has a malfunction in two of its sleep chambers. As a result, two hibernation pods open prematurely and the two people that awoke are stranded on the spaceship, still 90 years from their destination.”
The trailer is on the revealing side but don’t worry, it only gives away about three quarters of its main plots points. The set design and visuals are particularly impressive and Lawrence & Pratt are so gosh darn charming. I’m really looking forward to checking this one out in December. Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne and Aurora also star. Passengers opens December 21.
On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.
