New Image of Hugh Jackman in THE WOLVERINE; Film Takes Place After the Original Trilogy
A new image of Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine in James Mangold’s THE WOLVERINE has been released and it’s an interesting one because it reveals his claws to be purely bone. In the previous trilogy Wolverine’s claws were coated with the indestructible metal alloy adamantium and it doesn’t really help that Mangold told the mag that the film will take place after the events of the first three films. We could be looking at a flashback shot and that would coincide with both the set photos of the Japanese POW camp and the rumors that Jean Grey may make a cameo.
Mangold remarked to the outlet:
“Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all. Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him…That’s something that for me was very important, that I land in a very specific place in his timeline. I wanted to be able to tell the story without the burden of handing it off to a film that already exists and having to conform to it. The ideas of immortality reign very heavily in this story and the burden of immortality weighs heavily on Logan. For me that’s such an interesting part of Logan’s character that is nearly impossible to explore if you have a kind of league or team movie.”
Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed. Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, and Rila Fukushima round out the cast. The Wolverine hits theaters July 26th, 2013. Image courtesy of Empire via CBM.
